Sick Babies
One thing that all mothers discover is that your child can go from zinging off the walls to flat-out sick in 0.5 seconds. My daughter came home from preschool yesterday with a 102 fever. Today she was home with me, and she went through ups and downs. The scary one was around noon when her fever shot up to 105. Those scare me, and yet kids can spike a temperature so quickly.
I managed to get her into the pediatrician, but it turns out it was only a virus. Can’t do anything except wait it out, so she’s camped out in front of the tv with movies and Gatorade.
The baby is screaming upstairs. He won’t drink a bottle, won’t take a nap, and is being a beast in general. I suppose he’s probably coming down with the same bug.
Can I have my mommy now? ![]()

Melissa Mc Says:
Hugs Michelle. Prays for a quick recovery and that no one else gets it!
Jeni Says:
I’m right there with you. My kids had the week off school last week. My son was living up the mini-vacation, then boom - Friday night, he starts running a fever. I tried to treat it all weekend and it never went below 101 - add to that chest congestion, coughing, sore throat, the occasional vomiting episode. Poor thing… So off to the doctor Monday morning - and it’s a virus. We’re still waiting it out. Though the fever broke a couple times in the last 24 hours. Now we’re hovering around 100 degrees. Times like these when Mommy feels most helpless…
I hope your little one gets better faster than mine seems to be doing!
Kacey Says:
Hope she feels better soon! Hugs. (and don’t they pop back to feel great quickly too?) Fever one minute, all fine and bouncing off the walls the next.
Michelle Willingham Says:
Thanks Melissa, Kacey, and Jeni–I hope she pulls through soon. I hate 105 degree fevers..they scare me to death.
Jeni–here’s hoping your son makes a quick recovery!
Fedora Says:
Ugh! So sorry about the ickies settling in at your place–hope everyone gets well fast! So much for having any time for comfort reading
It seems like when the kids start school, they immediately track home some new-to-them bugs–we had a cold race through the week after the kids went back to school.
Michelle Styles Says:
Oh hugs. It is awful with temperatures spiking, but you did the best thing and took her to the doctor.
I assume they checked for an urinary tract infection.
But it is always one of those times that you feel so helpless as a parent.
Hopefully they both are better soon. Popsicles are great for getting liquids in.
Michelle Willingham Says:
Michelle–thanks. No, they didn’t check for a UTI. She’s had some vomiting, so they think it’s a stomach bug. Today’s not much better. Poor thing got sick on water.
Amy Says:
I could always tell when my kids were about to get sick. They’d go from their usual Mach 5 to Kamikaze quality racing around (as though they could outrun the virus).
Hugs to you and kiddo. Hope she feels better soon and that YOU stay healthy. Only thing worse than a sick kid is a sick mommy.
Olga Says:
Lots of hugs. I hope your daughter will recover soon. I second Amy. Please stay healthy.
Stacy Dawn Says:
Oh no, poor kid….poor mom LOL. But yeah, mine are the same, one minute bouncing, the next minute flaming–very scary.
Hope she feels better soon and the little one doesn’t get it
