Designing an Office

Now that we have a third child, our former office is now a child’s bedroom. The problem is where to store all the filing cabinets, the old desktop computer, and so forth. Not to mention all the office supplies, folders, and my oodles of books. My handyman husband built two additional closets in the baby’s room, and sadly, it’s still not enough.

The room is above the garage and has a slanted ceiling. We’re thinking of putting in built-in bookcases, along with a desk, so that part of the room can function as an office, but with everything stored out of sight in cabinets. So, I’ll be chatting with Lowe’s in the near future to see what we can do about office cabinets. This intimidates me, because I know nothing about design. :help: I know what equipment needs to be hidden, but the idea of choosing the storage cabinets and shelves makes me want to hide under the bed.

I can wield a tape measure, and I’m a pretty good worker if I know what to do. Heck, I put the roof on the shed my husband built, thankyouverymuch. AND I used a nail gun, which was much more fun than I’d ever imagined. :flying:

But this office design scares me. Have you ever had to design or build something within your house? Any recommendations? Things I should think about?

(In other book news, I’ve finished with Ewan’s proposal. Now to just finish the rest of the book! :typing: )

P.S.–today’s the last day to enter a comment for tomorrow’s drawing!
