Chick Flicks and Guy Movies
Yesterday, I watched two extreme forms of film. My mom recommended “August Rush” as a good movie. I watched it during the afternoon, and later that night, my husband wanted me to watch Rambo II.
“August Rush” was a good movie, if almost completely implausible. I enjoyed it for the entertainment value, but it definitely was a movie that would have my hubby gouging his eyeballs out. It’s the kind of movie that a boyfriend endures with his girlfriend, but doesn’t like. But really, any movie about a child who has lost his parents will make me cry.
“Rambo II” was just the opposite. Gratuitous violence, houses blowing up, and really mean guys with fake Russian accents that sound like German accents.
Hubby was loving it, and I enjoyed Sylvester Stallone’s cut muscles.
It was fairly predictable, but again, entertainment value.
I think it’s a real challenge for movie makers to reach both audiences. I’ll watch just about anything except horror movies. I’ve seen the James Bond movies, and the action films. I watch the romances and the comedies. Here are some of my top favorite movies:
The Princess Bride
October Sky
Remember the Titans
The Karate Kid
Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies
I’m a sucker for the underdog plot. Especially in athletic movies. I think it’s because I was the kid who was always picked last in gym class. What about you? What are some of your favorite movies? Or if you can’t think of any, what’s the last movie you saw?
(By the way, apologies that I was late in responding to comments yesterday. I was fighting with Ewan’s synopsis, and I went back to the previous two posts this morning. Sorry about that!)
