Something to Make Your Heart Stop

The baby is upstairs napping. He was NOT happy about it when I first tried to put him down, and I finally decided to invoke the Power of the Car Seat(tm). I had a few errands to run at the grocery store and so I figured that would tire out Mr. Nosy Baby.

When I got to the grocery store, there were two ambulances and two Fire Chief trucks in the parking lot. They were trying to break into a car window. Apparently a baby was left inside, which just about made my heart stop, and I clutched Nosy Baby even tighter. This is, to me, the most devastating thing that could happen. A few years ago, a father drove to work and forgot about his baby in the infant seat. The baby was left in the car and died.

Putting myself in the mother’s shoes, I honestly don’t know if I could forgive a husband for that. I guess this woman did, and they had another baby later. The court acquitted the man because it was unintentional.

Thankfully, when we got out of the grocery store ten minutes later, the mother was there, and they got the baby out. Apparently she had somehow locked the keys inside the car with the baby still inside. When I left, she was holding the baby and crying. My heart went out to her, but most of all, I was glad the baby was all right.

And I gave my sleeping infant son an extra squeeze when we got home.

I am so with you on this one, Michelle. I am so paranoid that one day I will lock my keys inside with my little one.

I’ve often wondered if I could forgive my husband if something like that happened, and I can’t say..I just don’t know. How devastating that would be for any family.

Now I want to run home and hug my linoleum lizards…

I was putting my son into into his carseat and my keys dropped onto his lap. I pushed the button on the minivan door to close his door. He found the keys and pushed the lock button before I could open my door. I was so freaked out. Someone was right there and between the two of us, we got him to start pushing all the buttons until the door opened. Luckily it was a overcast day and not warm at all, but I never close the kids’ door even though they are older now until I have my door open.

Thankfully all ended well. On August 25, a set of 3 yr old twins were found in the family car, only blocks from my home. The outside temp 77. The temp inside the car, they said could have been up to 115. It was very tragic.

When my 15 yr old was only a week old. I took her for her check up. I exited the driver seats hitting the power lock button to unlock the doors and walked to the other side of the van. The power locks went nut, flipping back and forth like crazy. It was June and well over 100 degrees. Somehow, after a few frantic moments, I had the smarts enough to insert the key into the passenger side door and stop the power lock schizo. By the time I had retrieved my dd, I was in tears.
