Honey, What’s for Dinner?
I don’t know if this is a phenomenon in my household alone, but dinner is a Big Topic around our house. Sometimes the boys in the family will want to know what’s for dinner, even after we’ve just finished lunch. Is it that way for you, too?
And often, it’s much easier to cop out and just pick up something from a restaurant. I have to stop doing this, since the more kids you have, the more expensive that gets. So, I’ve been trying out a lot of Internet recipes and looking up some of those restaurant knock-offs. The other day, we made Jack Daniels Chicken. Yum.
I made some adjustments of my own, but if you’d like to try it, it was really easy. You can use it with grilled chicken, shrimp, or even steak.
In a small saucepan, combine the following:
1 tsp. onion powder
3/4 Tablespoon Tabasco Sauce
2 Tablespoons Red Wine Vinegar
1/4 cup Jack Daniel’s whiskey
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup water
4 beef bouillon cubes (or 4 teaspoons powdered beef bouillon)
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Bring the ingredients to a boil and then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. While it’s reducing, grill your chicken or shrimp. If you pour sauce the sauce over the grilled chicken right away, it will still be a bit thin, but it thickens up at room temperature. The flavor is wonderful, so enjoy!
**Extra note–all alcohol is cooked off when you bring it to a boil and then cook it for that length of time. There’s no danger in serving it to kids.**

Lynellen Says:
Jack Daniel’s … that’s from TGI Friday’s, right? Whereever its from, I remember trying it several times and just not liking the taste of it.
Yeah, we do the “what’s for dinner” game too, especially on the weekends. During the week its just “when’s dinner”, not what.
