Her First Birthday Party
Here’s my little girl, all dressed up to go to a birthday party.
This was the first party she was invited to, and we had to get her ready with her party dress and little braids.
Sometimes being mom to a daughter is like having a live Barbie doll. I know that in a few years, she’ll never let me dress her up, but for now, I’m going to just enjoy it. Here she is again, ready to go have fun.
We saw the dinosaur exhibit at the museum (it was a dinosaur themed birthday party) and she got to pet a snake and a turtle. We also went outside to look at the animals. We saw wolves, deer, and here’s my favorite thing we saw:

It always amazes me how huge bald eagles are! Almost the same size as my girl, hunched over. But we had a fun mother-daughter day. She was all business, moving from one animal to the next. The exhibit that caught her attention the most was the dinosaur dig, where kids could “discover” bones by brushing away the sand. She kept exclaiming, “Mom! Look what I’ve found!”
And I had to remind myself that these are the times when you just smile and enjoy it. Because they grow up so fast…

Tori Lennox Says:
She’s so cute!!!
Amy Says:
Those birds are GORGEOUS! It sounds like quite the day. And daughter looks fabulous, of course.

Ain’t that the truth?
Suzanne Says:
She’s so cute. Yes, they grow up so fast and won’t let you fix their hair anymore, so enjoy it while you can!
Michelle Says:
Tori and Amy–thanks!
Suzanne–Her hair is so ratty right now–impossible to tame.
Yvette Says:
I remember when I found out I was having a girl. I cried with excitment. My first was a boy. I knew I was only going to have 2 and couldn’t believe how lucky I was, one each!!! My son had a little rough start so I was really praying for a healthy child and that she was! My son is thriving today. I put my daughter in dresses when ever I can because I know there will be a day she fights me on what to wear. She is 22 mos. now so I am squeezing in all the girl stuff I can.
Your daughter is a cutie!! Glad she had fun!
Melissa Marsh Says:
Look at that dress! It’s absolutely adorable!
I only had a small window of time to dress my daughter in dresses…she is such a tomboy now that a dress is almost taboo!
Missie Says:
I love how she is all spiffed up in the first picture and by the second, her hair is falling out of the braids. Too adorable! And just like my girl. Having a daughter is so much fun. (Except the drama…can do without the drama!)
A tip for the ratty hair. After getting her out of the tub and towel drying her hair, put about a nickel to quarter size amount of conditioner in her hair, but don’t rinse it out. (This has worked wonders on Alison’s hair, and actually made it manageable enough to fix.) Then in the morning, you can just re-wet it a bit, and the tangles and frizzies are much easier to deal with. We had tried leave in conditioners, detanglers, etc, with no luck. Now I just use a bit of my regular conditioner on Ali, and voila. No ratty child.
Let me know if this works for you.
