The Little Baby Who Didn’t Sleep
You know, I was really hoping that Baby Boy would start sleeping through the night. For a while it looked like he was improving. He’d go to bed at 8:00 and wake up at 2:00 a.m. for his feeding. Very manageable. But now he’s waking up at midnight and at 3:00 a.m. AND at 5:00 a.m. Not good. Yesterday I was one hurting puppy, up since 4:00 a.m. because when you get up at 5:00 a.m. anyway, what’s the point in going back to sleep? It still seems to be gas-related. Even though I give him gas drops before each feeding at night, it doesn’t seem to be helping.
Baby Maalox anyone?
Sweet Savage Sven (Irish-Viking book) is coming along and I should have that proposal done this month. Thanks to Robyn for the title suggestion. It makes me smile every time I open the computer file. Even though the hero’s name is Tharand. He is turning out to be one tortured man. My heart goes out to him, and hopefully the heroine will learn to love him.
Then it’s on to Ewan’s story idea. I know what I want to accomplish with him, but my early drafts weren’t right. I’m very in tune with my gut instincts and they haven’t let me down so far. So we’ll try to get a proposal for him.
Saturday at 3:00 p.m. I’ll be down in Norfolk, VA at the MacArthur Center Mall Barnes and Noble signing copies of Her Warrior King. If anyone is heading southside, I’d love to see you!
Back on the subject of babies-who-do-not-sleep, does anyone have any baby voodoo magic that I could use on Baby Boy to get him to sleep through the night, or at least go more than 4 hours? The rice cereal isn’t helping any more. I’m not sure if I need to give it to him later at night. Thoughts?

All I can suggest is what we’re doing…which admittedly is still on par for making you rather tired during the day. But we don’t put him to bed til 11. He sleeps til 4:30 though, so there’s that. I dream of being able to put him to bed at 8, but we tried 9:30 the other day since he dozed off and he slept til 2, and then was up at 3:30 and 5:30…*sigh*
Good luck figuring it out! I’ve got my fingers crossed that they both start realizing that sleeping for seven or eight hours is a glorious, wonderful thing.

I’m the wrong one to ask on this subject. I don’t remember much at all of the first year of my daughter’s life. She had reflux to the point that she had to take prescription medicine 20 minutes before a feeding and then sit up for an hour after the feeding. Taking into account the actual time it took to feed her and only 4 hours between feedings, that didn’t leave much sleep-time for mommy.
Robyn Says:
You’re quite welcome!
My daughter fought sleep like it was her mortal enemy. There was no magic formula; we just had to wait her out and she settled into a fairly good pattern. Like Cheryl, I don’t remember much about that year!

well, good luck getting that adorable child to sleep more! You must be exhausted and running into walls tired by now.
No advice to give. I think it’s one of those suck it up and get to the other side type times in life. Hang in there! At least he’s a cutie!

My youngest was an every two hour kinda guy. Music soothed that savage beast…ummm i mean sweetheart…
Julie Cohen Says:
Sad to say, my little guy didn’t start sleeping through the night until he was fully on solid foods and I’d switched to formula rather than breast milk. Though I hated to give him formula because I was all “I must feed my first born from my body”, my milk just wasn’t doing it for him. I also think it was much more of a palaver to give him a bottle during the night rather than just pick him up and breast feed him, so I tended to wait longer to do it, and then often he’d just go back to sleep. I remember several times coming upstairs with the bottle to find he was fast asleep again.
This was at around seven/eight months, though.
Now he sleeps through from 7.30, but I’m often up at 5 for the day…
I love “Sweet Savage Sven”!

No experience with babies whatsoever, but I feel for you! My fur kids keep me up half the night, and if you say, well, shut them out, then you haven’t had fur kids (cats)!
I hope your little guy settles back into his previous routine so you can get some rest!
