Done!

The book is done!

And here I was thinking that this baby would decide to come, now that I’d typed the last sentence. Uh, no. The child is still hanging out, in no particular hurry. Sigh.

On the bright side, I’m on maternity leave now, so I’m going to spend the week cleaning the house and working on revisions. It would be nice to e-mail the book to my editor before Thanksgiving. We’ll see how it goes. Revisions are one of those tasks that I have a hate-love relationship with. On one hand, it’s a lot easier to delete scenes and cut out unnecessary sentences when you’re no longer concerned about page count. But the toughest part is fleshing out those undercooked scenes. It’ll get there in time. I feel much more relaxed, now that the draft is done.

So, anyone want to take a guess when this child will show up? We should run a pool or something. Tell you what, the closest guess gets a copy of one of my books–your choice! Pick a day, time, gender, etc. and we’ll see who wins. :streamer:

Return to the Moon Trailer

Less than a chapter to go on the new book. I may finish it tonight if I can get my mojo going. :typing:

Still no baby. I’m considering jumping jacks. I remarked to my husband, that I’d like for my water to just break and then I’d know that I definitely had to go to the hospital. Ever-helpful, he remarked, “Well, we do have a reciprocating saw in the garage.”

This weekend he showed me this NASA trailer which has been developed for the next generation space programs. You can view it below.

Clearly, I am a geek at heart because I find this amazingly cool.

Happy Veterans Day to all those who serve our country!

TGIF!

Today was my last day at work before maternity leave. I had originally planned to work as long as I could, but lately I’ve been feeling uneasy about going so close to my due date. My husband wisely suggested that I just call it a week and then I can relax and rest up before baby arrives.

Tonight I’m feeling kind of twingy, so we’ll see if the baby makes an appearance over the weekend. If so, keep me in your thoughts for an epidural and a complication-free delivery. :)

My doctor joked that the baby was holding out for me to finish my manuscript. It’s been more and more difficult to concentrate, but I have 8 or so pages left. Maybe once I type “The End,” labor will start.

A Restaurant Funny

In our household, the kids aren’t allowed to leave the dinner table with dishes left behind. Their job is to put their own dishes and cups away in the dishwasher. When I first started this, I would tell them that we don’t have magic fairies who live in our household to clean up after us. Usually I’d remind them, “Tinkerbell doesn’t live here.”

Yesterday I took my son out to lunch on his day off (I had a teacher work day), and as we were leaving the table, he eyed the dishes and cups we had left for the waitress. Then he tilted his head and remarked thoughtfully. “Mom, I think Tinkerbell DOES live here.”

Playing the Waiting Game

I am now officially 38 weeks preggers, and both of my children arrived almost on the dot at 38 weeks. This child…has ideas of its own. By month nine, most pregnant women are just ready to have it all over with. We don’t care about the pain of delivery (although epidurals are a Good Thing). And then you start getting comments at work like, “Are you still here? Haven’t you had that baby yet?” Being the nice person that I am, I keep the snarky remarks to myself. Someone once said that each time a pregnant woman hears comments like these, the person who made them should be required to make a casserole and bring it over once the baby’s born.

Each day, I wake up wondering if this will be the day. If I were like most women, I’d think, oh heck, I have two more weeks. But I’ve never gone that far before. So here I am at this point and I’m thinking–let’s get it over with already! My lesson plans are done at school, my longterm sub is lined up, and I’ve baked cookies and cakes in the past two days. Nada.

On the bright side, Her Irish Warrior has now made its international debut. It’s on sale in the UK now on the Mills and Boon website, and it has a new cover. I’m still a fan of the original cover, but it’s interesting to see how different countries change things around. It will be officially in stores in the UK on December 7th. Very exciting! :snoopy: Then I’m told that it will debut in Australia in February. Wonder what kind of cover it will have there.

Not quite finished with the new manuscript, but I’m closing in on it. About 10 pages left, plus what my editor refers to as wallowing. Sometimes I have a bad habit of ending the story without allowing enough romantic wallowing. Next week I go on maternity leave, so if my munchkin hasn’t arrived yet, I’ll finish it then. And there will be much wallowing if I can manage it.

So for you ladies who have had babies, what was your experience like? Did they come early, on time, or late?

Baby Watch, Halloween, and Finishing Books, Oh My!

My brain has been in lockdown mode. I’m 20 pages away from finishing this book. You know how you hear stories of women frantically cleaning their houses in preparation for a baby? Me? Not so much. My instincts are more in line with, Oh-Lord-I’d-Better-Finish-This-Book-Before-I-Give-Birth-Because-I-Will-Have-No-Brain-Left. I’ve been knuckling down, trying to wrap up the rough draft. This would be easier if I weren’t at the Fear of the Ending stage. Those of you who know me well, understand that once I hit the point where I’m within reach of the end, I start panicking and second-guessing myself. The writing grinds to a screeching halt and I’m lucky if I finish 2 pages a night. It’s just a mental game. I get over it and it all ends up okay in the second draft, but I have to constantly remind myself that it’s okay to write an undercooked scene because I’ll fix it later.

I saw the doctor today, and he reminded me that if I started in real labor or my water broke that I needed to get to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. Well, duh. ;)

My co-workers threw me a surprise baby shower today, which was the nicest end to my day. I never saw it coming. We enjoyed cake, drinks, and they gave me a gift card to Babies R Us. I love the people I work with.

Kids at HalloweenAnyway, thought I’d leave you with these pictures of my beautiful kidlets, all dressed up for trick-or-treating.
