Still Hanging in there…
I’m still around, but now that I’m down to 3 weeks or less, I decided it was time to get things ready for the baby. We put the crib up yesterday and I packed my hospital bag. I’ve sterilized pacifiers and bottle nipples, dragged out the burpy cloths and receiving blankets, and bought diapers. The infant seat is out of the attic, but I still need to wash the cover.
This, of course, likely means that this child will continue hanging around for every last day of the 3 weeks. If I weren’t ready, I’d probably go into labor tomorrow.
Nature is very good about preparing mothers for labor. By the time you hit month nine, you’d do just about anything to get things going. My other two children were born at 38 weeks, so if I’m lucky, maybe the child will make an appearance next week.
I just want one thing. An epidural. Oh, and I’m hoping to actually make it to the hospital. Baby #1 came in 4 hours. Baby #2 came in 2 hours. Please, God, don’t let this child be born in the car…

Bronwen Says:
I wanted an epidural but each time I was too quick. would have been nice!
Holly (aka Taryn Raye) Says:
I didn’t get the chance for the epidural either with my daughter. Went to the doctor for my appointment, was at 5cm so he sent me to L&D. He came over around 1pm and broke my water and for an hour I was ok, but at soon as 2pm hit, the contractions started coming quickly and by 3:21pm, my daughter was born.
The nurse kept telling me if I needed anything to let her know, but I kept saying no, I was hanging in there. I did finally ask for Demerol, but that was about 10-15 minutes before my daughter was born. I felt REALLY good after, that’s for sure, but I don’t think it did a lot of good during the last few minutes of laboring. LOL
I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers over the next few weeks.
Melissa Marsh Says:
I thought I’d be a brave woman (i.e. stupid) and have my baby without an epidural or any kind of pain killer. “All natural, that’s what I want!” I foolishly said. Ha! That is pain I will NEVER forget!
beth Says:
I’ve got my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly - can’t wait to hear about the newest little one!
Kim A. Says:
I’m crossing my fingers, too, that all goes well. A quick delivery sounds pretty good. LOL. I don’t have children (by choice) and I just can’t imagine going through labour once, let alone multiple times. Ha!

Leanne Says:
I’ll keep thinking good thoughts that everything goes alright. Hopefully you’ll get to the hospital and get the nice feeling epidural. Can’t wait to see the beautiful new baby.

Melissa Blue Says:
Lucky you. I was in labor with my daughter for 28 hrs. With my son I had contractions for three weeks before he decided to show his face. I am not getting pregnant again I might be in labor the whole 9 months.
And heck it sounds like you won’t have the time to get drugged.
Heidi Dahlquist Says:
I hope everything goes okay. I loved doing my nursing rotation in L&D, its where I want to work when I graduate. Listening to all of your stories makes me nervous about labor when I finally have a child.
Suzanne Says:
Good luck, Michelle! I was SO worried about #3 being born in the car, too!!!
Kelly Boyce Says:
Good luck with everything and hope you don’t have the baby in the car too!
mary beth Says:
Good luck Michelle!!!!
Donna Alward Says:
Michelle…my apologies for using your blog…but could you e-mail me ASAP? I’m on a laptop with no address book and only webmail through my isp so I don’t have an e-mail editor. SIGH.
Thanks babes,
Donna
Phillipa Says:
Michelle. I hope Baby 3 arrives soon - but not too soon for you and that you don’t need the epidural.
ReneeLynnScott Says:
Michelle,
With my third, I had a long drawn out conversation with the insurance company, in which I told them that if my child suffered any complications due to their stubbornness that I would thoroughly sue them. My children birthed quickly, except for my fourth. And all of them came 37 weeks on the dot, except the first she was 36 weeks.
That third child, was 45 minutes start to finish, thank goodness, I stood my ground with our insurance. We’d never of made it to the hospital they wanted me to go to.
Good luck with your baby. I’ll be praying for the best.
Michelle Says:
Thanks to all for the good wishes and luck!
