Upcoming Events

This Sunday will be a busy day for me. I’ll be signing copies of The Warrior’s Touch at the Newport News, VA Borders in Patrick Henry Mall from 1:00-3:00 p.m. If you live nearby, please feel free to stop by! I’m signing with Sydney Croft, aka Larissa Ione. We decided to give away a $20 Borders gift card to a lucky shopper, so if you come, you can drop your name in for a chance to win.

I’m also guest-blogging over at Risky Regencies on Sunday. I’ll be talking about The Warrior’s Touch and my own inspiration for the book. If you’ve read it, bring your questions! If not, I’m also offering up a signed copy to someone who posts a comment on the blog.

I think at the end of next week I will pass out with exhaustion. Today I finished getting my classroom ready, signed books over at Super K-Mart and a few at Borders while I was talking to the manager, and ran errands. It occurred to me that I should buy lunch goodies for my son, who starts kindergarten on Tuesday.

I’ve heard more parents groan about packing school lunches than anything else. Do you think I could train my five-year-old to pack his own? Any tips from the trenches for those of you who’ve been there, done that?

Thankfully, the school my daughter goes to provides lunches. I’m too adsent minded and my poor daughter would likely starve most of the day. There are some pretty good magazines out there ones like PARENTS that talk about what you can prepare.

Anyway, The Warrior’s Touch has made it to Fresno, CA in our local Wally-World aka Wal-Mart.

I found The Warrior’s Touch at our Wal-Mart in Bowling Green, Kentucky the other day, but I had already ordered it from amazon.com so I didn’t get a copy(got home and my copy was in the mailbox! I’ve already finished it and LOVED it!)

As for packing school lunches, we had a very bad experience with it.

We didn’t do it in kindergarten or 1st grade for my stepson…at the beginning of 2nd grade, he decided he just HAD to take it. He did under the condition that he didn’t forget and had to pack it himself because if he didn’t he wouldn’t have anything to eat at lunch.

This was more his mom’s idea and I ended up having to remind him daily to pack it. After he’d taken it for 5-6 months of the school year, we started to realize that he hadn’t done well in class because he was eating cold Lunchables and not satisfying his hunger.

He went back to eating at school and he started to do better on his homework, had better concentration and better behavior in class(and brought up his grades on his last progress report), so we’ve decided there will not be anymore packing lunch for him. He works better when he eats a good hot meal at school.

Best of luck though if you do decide to go that route.

Sorry Michelle, I don’t have any experience with the lunch packing yet. As for The Warrior’s Touch, I loved it, especially when Conner finds out about(you know what) and the ending when they were all there to give him hope and courage. Can’t wait to find out about Patrick and Isabel. Will there be any more MacEgan books, or is this going to be just like a trilogy? I’d love to find out about Trahern and Ewan. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Yay for finding the Warrior’s Touch in stores! :snoopy: Glad to hear it.

Holly–I’ll likely have him pack his lunch in the beginning and then if he wants to try the hot lunch, he can. Thanks for the tip!

Leanne–I have stories tentatively mapped out for both Trahern and Ewan, but my editor wanted me to hold off for a bit on the other two brothers (let Ewan grow up). The book I’m working on now has a loose connection to the MacEgans, and you’ll have to wait and see what that is. I do hope to write books for both Trahern and Ewan, though.

Man, if it wasn’t Labor Day weekend (and thus traffic from all sorts of deeply southern places, if you get my point) I would drive down tomorrow just to say hi! (Well, and get my book signed!)

As for lunches…well, I don’t know if this’ll work for a Kindergartner, but for me, I do it all at night - though I keep things that would get soggy separate. So if he can put a sandwich together, you could package up the bread and whatever (probably not good for PB&J) in separate baggies and then he can make the sandwich before he eats. That may be too advanced for a 5? 6? year old though - I have no concept of their abilities. :) Good luck with your first week of school!

  6. Melissa Mc Says:

Hope your booksigning goes well on Sunday! Give us the full report when you can!

  7. Bonnie Ferguson Says:

Have a great time at the booksigning! :cheer:

My Mom always lived by the adage of you eat what I put in front of you, or you don’t eat at all. Luckily I wasn’t a very picky eater! Then again, maybe that’s why - thoughts of starvation kept me motivated.

BTW - picked up your new book yesterday. Can’t wait to start reading it!

  9. Kelly Says:

Hahaha…okay I am really tired because I totally misread what you were saying about the lunches. I think I had too much sun today.
