One last week

This is my last week before I have to go back to work. There are two weeks of teacher preparation (Okay, truly there are about 2 days of classroom preparations and 8 days of meetings) before the kids arrive the day after Labor Day. Now it’s crunch time, and my goal is to reach page 200 by Sunday. I’m on page 167, in case you were wondering. So that’s 33 pages in 6-7 days. I can do this. If I stop surfing the Internet, watching television, and taking naps that is. That’s the one downside of pregnancy at this stage. I swear, if they had an Olympic event in napping, I could take home the gold. I’m also getting huge. I’m about 6 1/2 months along, and my little munchkin is kicking the stew out of me.

During this past summer, my five-year-old son has been staying home with me. It’s been fun. The other day, we were both writing–he in his little notebook, and me on the laptop. I have to tell you, it’s an absolute scream to see what a five-year-old writes about. I have come across the most random, stream-of-consciousness writing you’ve ever seen. I think my favorite was: Dead butterfly. I love my mom. Happy Birthday. :streamer: I have no idea where the dead butterfly came from, but apparently this was a key plot point for him. Ooookay.

My youngest is trying to learn how to read. She knows most of her letter sounds, and we’re working on sounding out basic words. For the longest time, she wouldn’t let me read to her. SHE had to do it. Literally, she would wrestle the book out of my hands and demand to tell the story her way. The other day, I finally had a break-through. I agreed to take turns. I would read the page to her first, and then she would read it back to me. (And let me tell you, I have another budding fiction writer, based on the stories she made up from the pictures.)

Yesterday at church, she just cracked me up. The previous week, there were about six babies who were christened. My girl was fascinated by this and thought it was the most amazing event ever. So this Sunday when she saw a parent and infant, she demanded, “Mommy, are they going to appetize the babies today?”

Good luck with your goal - but you’re right, you totally can do it. :) Got your book in the mail finally! It’s on the list for after I either finish slogging through the current one or give up on it for awhile.

Have fun with all the teacher prepping! (And hey, 8 days of meetings sounds like 8 days of good solid napping.)

:rotf: My daughter sounds like both of your kids. When she was your daughter’s age, she would wrestle the book away from and almost verbatim, tell me the story as I had read it to her so many times before. She memorized all her favorite ones and even now I’ll find her with a book and she’ll be “reading” it aloud as she remembers it. She can’t read yet, though she recognizes and can write most of her abc’s.

When I’m working on my novel, she’ll be at her little table in the corner of the living room either drawing a picture that has a story that goes with it, or pretending to write. She once told me about a “friend” of hers named Princess BigPants and had this whole story that went with her. LOL I thought that would be a cute little story of a tomboy princess and may someday try writing it in honor of my daughter’s active imagination.

Good luck with reaching page 200! I know you can do it.

As for the napping…geez I remember those days..but mine subsided around the end of the 1st trimester and then picked back up at the beginning of the 3rd. I swear I never thought I could sleep so much in all my life as I did when I was pregnant. I couldn’t sit down on the couch without conking out within just a few minutes and I never meant to…it just happened! LOL

Have a good last week before you get back to work.

I have faith in you….You can meet the 33 page goal. Ive had had a child, but I can only imagine how tired you must get! As for me, I love naps anyway, especially on rainy days.

Don’t worry Michelle, I know you will get your pages done by Sunday. I have faith in you. :cheer: I have a 1 year old daughter, so I know a little of what you are going through, trying to get everything together. It’s hard enough for me just to keep the house clean,(Hannah’s a little tornado). I think I slept about half of my pregnancy. Hope everyone has a good day.

    LeAnne :typing: :rotf:

Holly–that’s hilarious about Princess Big Pants! Love it.

Leanne–It’s a good thing our little tornadoes are so cute. It increases their life-expectancy. I’ve given up on the clean house part. It’s just not going to happen for a while.
