Little Munchkin’s Birthday

Baby girlTomorrow my daughter turns 3. :streamer: It’s so hard to believe, and I was thinking the other day about how your children become such a part of your life, it’s almost impossible to remember what it was like before they were around. To the left is a picture of her almost a year ago. It’s funny how she had almost no hair.

My girlNow, she has much more hair and a barrel full of personality. I asked her if she was excited about her birthday and she said, “I shake my booty!” and started wiggling her fanny (as pictured).

Tonight I was multi-tasking: waiting for the cupcakes to bake (she wanted princess ones, and I compromised with pink frosting and sprinkles), making treat bags for her class, and getting dinner ready. She came up and asked, “Mommy, can I help?” I set her to work putting bubbles, candy, and plastic swirly straws in the treat bags. I was pleasantly surprised that she managed to stuff all the treat bags on her own. She was thrilled to be helping, and it gave me a break. Often, I forget what the kids can do to help out. Works for me! She’s just going to have a classroom party at her daycare and then cake with the family at home. I’d rather avoid parties until she’s old enough to actually appreciate what’s going on.

When I look back on my birthday parties, the one that stands out the most is when I was eight years old. My mother let me invite 17 friends, and all we went roller skating. And man, did I ever think I was cool, skating to “Karma Chameleon.” Do you remember “Couples Only” and “Backwards Skate?” Then there was the Limbo.

What was your most memorable birthday party? What did you do?

I have an early August birthday, so parties were always outside. I grew up riding horses and showing them (show jumping), so my most memoriable Bday was when I must have turned 10. That day I was competing in a horse show. I won Champion for my division (Equation Under Saddle/Jumper). Then after the show, all of us riders from the barn went to a local water slide park where they had cake and ice cream for me. I think the best part was winning earlier in the day (I had the Champion ribbion, 4 blue ribbions, 2 reds, and a yellow for third) becasue it was my first horse show and then having all my riding friends with me topped the day off. Granted, this party was in the early 80’s, so you can imagine the music…..Gosh, I remeber dancing to Walk This Way with Run DMC and AC/DC at a horse show in the empty dressing stalls…. I miss 80’s music:razz:

What a cutie! Good luck on the 3’s. I know what you mean about not remembering what life was like before kids. I think its a defense mechanism.

I was never one for birthday parties. I’m guessing, however, this year will be memorable since it is the 4-0.

Happy Birthday, Michelle’s Little Diva! She is such a cutie pie. Too bad she’s so introverted….

I was just telling the hub today about how hard it is for me to remember what it was like just being a one kid family before Alison the Holy Terror was born. She is so much a part of us and has changed our lives for the better, and isn’t even 2 yet. I do think she and your daughter would get along famously. Maybe we could send them both off together to some Toddler Demolition Camp so we could get some rest?

My most memorable birthday: my mom through a surprise party for me for my 16th b’day. I had no idea! It was so cool to walk into the house and have all my friends there to help me celebrate.:streamer:

    Gosh I can’t believe how old she’s getting! What a cutie. :)

Um…probably the sledding parties (since I’m a winter birthday) before we moved to the land where it rarely snows and even then only enough to mess up the world and not enough to, you know, sled.

I think the most memorable was when I turned 18. My birthday is in late August so it was the last time we were all together before going away to college. My guy friends pitched in and bought me a pair of pink Vans since I was going to CA for college. They thought they’d be cool. A really great night!

My daughter turns 20 on the 20th! I never had a birthday party and I never let my mother forget it lol. My sister only had one but I never let her forget that either lol.

Missie–Demolition camp would be right up her alley!

    Neat party stories, ladies! :)

I am such a birthday princess - my family always made big deals out of birthdays. I guess my most memorable one was when my grandparents brought my pony (yes, princess) to my house for my after school party and took my friends around the block on her.

I had a new dress, too, and before I could change, someone stepped on the tie and ripped it.

    Happy birthday to your baby!
