Easter Story
My son is five, and since Easter is coming, I wanted to make sure he understood the true meaning of why we celebrate the holiday. Still, you have to censor some of it. A five-year-old isn’t quite ready to handle the full meaning, but we talked about how Jesus died on the cross and rose again on Easter Sunday. You know, simple and sweet.
Son: But when does the Easter Bunny come?
Me: After church.
Son: (brightens) Oh! So the Easter Bunny helped Jesus rise from the dead!

OMIGAWSH! You have to send that to a magazine next year! It makes for cute additions to their baby books.

LOL, I can see why all this confuses kids so. Every where you look, we’re bombarded with the Easter goodies and the big wabbit himself in various forms of chocolate.

Very cute.
Actually if you think about it, the cult of Oestre did come after Jesus at least in Britian. Easter is named after oestre who was a Saxon fertility goddess — the Saxons arrived in the British Isles AFTER the early Christians. One of the animals associated with her was the hare. Hence the Easter bunny or so my meory about such things is telling me.
Eggs, and decorated eggs were early Christian symbols in any case. Chocolate came much later…
