10 Weird Facts About Me

I have been buried under this past week with trying to jump start my book. I found a serious error in the middle (Namely, the hero was being entirely too nice to the heroine and that’s the kiss of death to a romance.). Ironic, isn’t it? But if you let up on the tension for even a second, your book starts to go south. I found the problem, deleted 12 pages (ow, ow, OW that HURTS), and now I’m back on track. I’ll need to step up my page progress for the next few days and then I should be right where I need to be.

So did anyone watch the Oscars? I was glad to see that Jennifer Hudson won. It’s a great story–hope she can handle the fame. So many people like Britney Spears become famous too quickly and can’t seem to deal with the pressure.

Jan Kenny tagged me with this one, so I’ll try to come up with some new ones:

1. I hate seafood.
2. I have composed piano music.
3. I was once a freestyle ice skater.
4. My favorite bulbs are hyacinths. LOVE the scent of them in the springtime.
5. I listen to movie soundtracks while I write. My favorites include “Braveheart,” “Last of the Mohicans,” “Batman Returns” and “Gladiator.” Every book I write has a song associated with it.
6. I have read Clan of the Cave Bear at least fifteen times.
7. I can play “A Bicycle Built for Two” on the ukelele. Quite poorly, I might add. :rotf:
8. Both of my children were born two weeks shy of their due date.
9. My favorite drink is Bulmer’s Cider (ahh, Ireland)
10. I’m allergic to cats.

And speaking of cats, does anyone have a cat as a pet? I need to write a scene with a cat and I’d like to get a sense of feline attitude. I haven’t been around them much, due to reason #10, and I’d love to hear cat stories.

Our cat Whiskey is nuts!! He is a cream Himalayan with whiskey colored ears and tail. Anyway he likes to sleep in the weirdest body positions. He will literally sleep butt over head leaning against the table leg. Other times he is laying straight on his back in the middle of the room and lifts only his head (rest of his body is still on the floor) when someone walks by. His favorite place is laying on his back with his paws pulled into his chest on the back of the big chair in the living room.

When he was a little squirt he used to hide in closets, under tables, behind furniture and when you walked by he would attack your feet and run back to where he was and wait for someone else to go by. Nowadays, he like to beat up the new puppies in the house. He actually walks up to them and smacks on the head. When he is not doing that he is racing around the house for reason only he knows and them plopping over and falling asleep. Did I mention that he was nuts?

Hope that helps. I actually have a picture of him asleep on a small table on his back about to fall off. It’s very cute.

Marissa–thanks! This is very helpful. I’ll have to remember that. :)

We have 3 Asian Burmese - with plenty of Cattitude. If you go to this link on my old blog - http://chicksover40.blogspot.com/2006/06/cattitude-is-everything.html, you’ll see a great pic of a cat with attitude. It’s all about the Cattitude. :)

  4. Gina Black Says:

Cat attitude varies tremendously not only with temperament but also with age. I’ve had cats my whole life (and they are in every one of my books). Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

  5. Melissa Mc Says:

    Good luck with the book!

I have three cats. I had a cat when I was younger, too. Let me know if you need anything specific.

  6. Bonnie Ferguson Says:

I was thrilled that Jennifer Hudson won! :snoopy:

I hate to tell you this, but #5 and #10 aren’t weird. *g*

  8. Kelly Says:

I don’t have cats but my sister does and I’m around them a lot. She has two - Mito, the big fluffy white male that we refer to as The Lion King and the smaller black & white short hair called Keebler, who we also refer to as the Court Jester. Now given their nicknames you can probably see we have two VERY different personalities. The stuffy, reserved King who looks down his nose at everyone, and the energetic, often goofy Jester who wants everyone to love him.

So the cats are at my house. I have vents in the floor. Keebler is being his usual goofy self. Mito lies on the floor next to the vent in his usual stately manner. Keebler comes running in his general direction. Mito slowly gets to his feet, flips the top off the vent and punts Keebler down into it, then shoves the vent back overtop. I kid you not. True story.

I never thought I’d have a cat as a pet. Growing up on the farm, we had lots of outdoor cats and my allergies were ok with that as long as I didn’t pick them up. Now, though, we do have an indoor cat and I just love her - never, never thought I would. I am a dog person, through and through. She made me sneeze, etc., at first, but the more I was around her, the less my allergies kicked in. Now, the only time I itch is if I hold her with bare arms and then I have to wash my skin right away.

  10. Heidi Dahlquist Says:

Cool facts Michelle….we have one thing in common….Blummers Cider from Ireland is also my favorite drink. I wish they sold it here!!!

Jean auel is my favorite series author!

I have 5 cats and have been babysitting my daughter’s cat for the last 6 months. One is part Maine Coone. I also take care of ferals. If you get me started on the subject, it’s hard to shut me up lol so I too would be glad to answer any questions you may have :)

  12. Michelle Says:

Thanks Kathy, Gina, Melissa Mc., Kelly, Melissa, and Jeanne. :) I will definitely be asking questions when I get to that stage of the book!
