Newsletters and such
In the next few weeks, I’m going to send out another newsletter announcing my 2nd and 3rd sales. I got to thinking about it, and honestly, when I get newsletters from other authors, I look at what titles are coming out and then I’ll delete the file. Unless there’s something really compelling about the e-mail, it’s just a quick glance.
In a way, I’d like to make my newsletters a little more interesting (maybe add a recipe or excerpt from the book, etc.). 
But perhaps that’s a stretch. I only send them out to announce the release of a book, because I don’t want to annoy people and clutter their in-boxes.
So, quick survey–if you get e-mail newsletters from other authors, what things do you find interesting? What puts you off? What’s your general opinion of them?

I like to hear about new sales, upcoming books, and read excerpts.

I don’t like newsletters to be too busy. Just tell me what’s coming out and when. But I’m a no frills type.

I skim and delete too, unless there’s an excerpt, or a link to an excerpt. Sometimes the author has a ’skill testing question’ based on the excerpt to win something. Most times I’m too lazy to take the test, but other’s love contest. But, if you want your readers to spend a little more time with your newletter, and except is the way to go. Or deleted scene. Or, Elizabeth Hoyt had a Q&A with her hero at the back of the book, that would be fun in a newsletter.
