Television Ranting
I thought I’d start off the new week by offering some television rants.
24: Okay, I’m willing to suspend disbelief on many things, but why in the WORLD would they not make a copy of the evidence recording? They are all running around like crazed idiots trying to keep a recording, and no one makes a copy? All they’d have to do is pick up the phone, call the local news station, and hit Play. The president’s career would be over.
Also, I am still holding out for an action heroine to join CTU. Jack Bauer needs a female agent who can help him out and not need rescuing.
Lost–My husband still has not watched this week’s episode that we TIVO’ed. I am about ready to duct-tape him to the couch. I stayed up to watch it and practically started screeching at the television. It was quite a shocker….deliciously so. I am a big fan of twisty plots that lead up to something huge and then flip the tables on you. If I can believe in the twist, and see how it was motivated, I will drool with glee. Yes, I needed a roll of Bounty to mop up the drool from where my jaw hit the rug.
American Idol–You know, I don’t particularly care who wins at this point. Last year it was fun to see whether Carrie or Bo would win. Katharine sometimes does a wonderful job, but she’s hit or miss. Chris is probably my favorite, but he’s firmly entrenched in his type of music and doesn’t have much variety. Taylor cracks me up, but truthfully, I don’t know that I’d buy any of their albums. Ah well. It’s mindless entertainment.
Last, my niece’s First Communion went really well. We got her a rosary from the Vatican, and she carried it in her purse. At the last minute, she decided she wanted to wear it around her neck.
Oh well, why not?
I also think Brian needs to step in the comments section and tell us about his weekend at the Kentucky Derby. Lucky man!

Tori Lennox Says:
I know what you mean about 24!!! It’s insane! And Lost! Wasn’t that a shocker???
And, yes, I want to hear about the Derby from someone who was actually THERE!
Olga Says:
I don’t think I have a TV rant at the moment - to be honest, I don’t watch that much TV. Indulged myself in watching Gangs of New York yesterday, partly because it had several actors I really like. It was a bit less grandeur and more violent than I expected, but somehow I wasn’t disappointed.
Peggy Says:
I’ve heard so much about Lost’s season finale. I didn’t see it. We’re trying to cut back on television at my house so only a select shows are allowed. American Idol was my choice and noone else picked Lost. Instead they choice Prison Break.
beth Says:
We’re so far behind on 24 it’s just not funny. I think we just watched the episode where you find out that Logan is the bad guy on Friday. Last night when we sat down to watch some TV we decided on Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Fun movie in a “quality B flick” kind of way. But if you don’t like movies that are so bad they’re fun, don’t watch it.
There is no Lost or AI in our household, so I can’t comment on those. Lost conflicts with…Criminal Minds I think. AI just doesn’t have interest for us - though I will admit to owning Kelly Clarkson’s 2nd album and enjoying it quite a lot. So it can’t be all bad.
Glad the 1st Communion was great. We saw a few little girls on our block all dressed up in their white dresses and veils getting ready to go on Saturday, it was cute.
Kelly Says:
I’m willing to put my career as a historical novelist on hold for a short period of time to take a job at CTU with Jack Bauer.
Brian Says:
Derby Highlights…since you asked…
This is my 3rd Kentucky Derby. It’s always fun and exciting. However, like much in life, it’s not as glamorous in real life as it is on television. Basically, there are three levels of Derby experience. One is the super stars who show up and are pampered on “Millionaire’s Row.” (I’ve never experienced that, you have to shell out thousands of dollars and have connections to an owner or trainer to get there.)
Then there’s the regular grandstand experience. This is where I was. Still lots of fun. Fancy hats, lots of men in seersucker suits, and plenty of mint juleps. (Even in Kentucky, people only drink this at the Derby. It’s made with Bourbon, sugar syrup and mint. Refreshing.) I’ve never bet on the winning Derby horse, but it’s amazing how a $5 bet can make the race more exciting. There’s actually 12 races on Derby Day.
Then there’s the “infield.” Think Spring Break in Daytona, Bourbon Street New Orleans, and Girls Gone Wild and you’ll have an idea of what goes on there. You can’t even see the horses; they have large projection screens for those who want to watch.
On the whole, it’s a great day and showcases some of the things that make Kentucky great! The Kentucky Derby is certainly something that you should do once in your life!
By the way, the only “celebrity” I saw was Gilbert Gottfried. Not exactly A-list. :batman:
Stacy Says:
I watch AI and am voting for Chris.
I admit, I’m still a survivor fan but it took until the last five episodes this year for anything amazing to happen.
Gina Says:
I’m still shocked over Lost. Ghost Whisperer got me too this week. With Lost I never saw it coming at all. I can’t believe Michael turned like that. With American Idol, I love Chris, and I’d lik to see him win. Katharine to me is second, and I just don’t see Elliot or Taylor making it to the end even if Simon says Taylor will. I talk about this stuff too much for the sites I write for. Don’t follow 24 though, but I’ve seen some doozies that make me scratch my head with television all the time.
Crystal* Says:
No rant.
Just saying HI!
Grins*
April Alsup Says:
LOL on the dd’s first communion. I remember trying to wear it as a necklace too. It just fits that way!
Danica Says:
Brian, that sounds like a good time!
Michelle, thanks for making him tell.
Tori Lennox Says:
Brian, it sounds like a fabulous time! And I saw all the drunks and rabble-rousers in the infield on TV. :confused2:
MaryF Says:
I’m with you on 24 - that was just so stupid!!! Of course, you knew with three more hours, something had to happen. Miles is a weasel.
Melissa Mc Says:
Yep, Lost was a shocker. Cannot wait to see the episode tomorrow. I’ve heard the finale is amazing. At least that’s what the producers keep saying.
One child is pulling for Katherine, another Taylor, the third was for Kelly. Last year it was easy since it was the girls for Carrie and the boy for Bo. Made it fun down to the last episode. Now, I’m just sorta into it. No one I really care if they win or lose.
Michelle Says:
Brian–thanks so much for sharing! That’s really cool that you were there.
