It’s Friday!

It’s Friday, or what I now view as phone-stalking day. You see, on Friday’s, there’s a myth floating around writer-land that this is the day when editors call to offer book contracts. :woot: Mondays? :ick: Nah. People are just coming in off the weekend, figuring out what’s happening this week…no way would they call an author. But Fridays are another story.

I stalk my classroom phone. As the clock moves closer to lunchtime, my nerves start to sharpen. I start thinking…what if today is the day? What would it be like? My imagination takes off, and of course I envision myself as being very calm, smooth-talking, etc. The reality is, I’d probably pass out cold. :worthy: I probably wouldn’t remember my own name.

But it is a fun pasttime. I love having submissions out, playing the what-if game. I think it would be an interesting statistic to find out when people got The Call. Does the day of the week have anything to do with it? Or is it completely random? Something to ponder. (and yes, if you know the answer to this Question of the Universe, please do post it!)

This afternoon we’re traveling to Raleigh to attend my goddaughter’s First Communion. I love family weekends. Can’t wait. What about you? Any plans for the weekend?

Hope you get the call today! :) And have a fun weekend. My oh-so-exciting plans include writing a paper for school, watering my roses, and cleaning up my library. You can be jealous, it’s ok. ;)

  2. Brian Says:

I will be trackside for the 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby, the most exciting two minutes in sports! Cheer :cheer: for Sinister Minister!

  3. Emma Sinclair Says:

Hmmm, I’d always heard it was Thursdays that most calls went out. Well into the week, but not the paniced “last day before the weekend!”

Thanks, now I’ve got another day to stare at the phone!

Have a great weekend with your family - as for me, I’ve got blissfully nothing!

My fingers are crossed that this Friday is YOUR Friday!

It’s gonna come soon, Michelle, and I can’t wait to hear alllll about it!!

    Bosey

  5. Kate Allan Says:

lol if only… Except I’ve not got any submissions out there at the moment. Just a book which needs writing. Fingers crossed you get the call though. The world needs more historical romance authors. :)

  6. Tori Lennox Says:

Have fun this weekend, Michelle! I’d like to be trackside with Brian, but I’ll settle for watching on TV. :)

I think I got called on a Thurs…but that was like forever ago so things could have changed.

    Happy weekend!

Sounds like a fun weekend. I have a critique mtg tonight with a friend, need to go ball glove shopping with same friend Saturday to help her pick one out, and then SUnday is our chpt mtg. And I have a stack of movies waiting for pick up at the library that I need to watch… Looks like a busy weekend.

  10. Michelle Says:

Beth–you’ll have to teach me the secret to good roses!

Let’s all join Brian this weekend! :flying: Sounds like fun!

Kate–I’ll volunteer to join up with the historical writers. Would love that.

Thanks Bonnie and Le. No call today. But no rejection either, so I can live with that. :chocolate:

    Bosey–you and me both!

    Happy weekend everyone!

My daughter is making her first communion on Saturday!

I don’t think the day of the week has anything to do with when you sell a book. But just remember the time difference between you and London. If you don’t hear before noon, chances are you won’t. I’m on the west coast so it’s 9:00 am :cheer:for me. Good luck! :cheer:

  12. Sharon Says:

Ohh I totally thought you were leading up to GETTING a call. Ah well I hope you get one soon!!

  13. Melissa Says:

Weekend plans include a root canal and sleep. ;)

Have a great weekend! I’m just going to grade some papers, read a book, and maybe work on getting my current manuscript done.

  15. Michelle Styles Says:

I was called on a Friday but then my editor likes to make The Call on a Friday so people can have a wonderful weekend. Whether or not other editors make The Call then is a moot point.
I had the call about my two book contract on a Tuesday…

  16. Gina Says:

I’m waiting to hear back on a submission too. I hate the wait. No plans for this weekend other than watching the Kentucky Derby later on.

  17. Danica Says:

Hope you have a great weekend! Looking forward to being here when you get the call. :)

  18. Stacy Says:

My neice has her First Communion at the end of the month. Not being Catholic, I’m looking forward to the service.

Hope you had a great weekend!
