Giving up Naps

Life as I formerly knew it, seems to be ending. I believe my daughter is about to give up her naps. :sleepy2:

This would be the part where I emit a primal scream, “Noooooooo!!!!!”

There’s something comforting about having the children go down for their naps after lunch. A private moment alone with the hubby, a chance to do something together without the constant interruptions. Our son gave up his naps last year at age 3. One weekend he just stopped taking them. He was awake from the moment we put him down until the moment we went in to get him. Of course, he’s always been an easy-going child. Even now, if we ask him to go into his room and color, he’ll happily obey.

Not so, the Evil Child. If we tell her to go and color, she’ll say, “No!” :ick: Then she’ll drag a chair across the kitchen table and proceed to take knives out of the chopping block. :woot:

Today when she was supposed to be taking a nap I came in from outside to check on her and she was EATING THE EASTER CANDY. :duh: Along with my last Cadbury’s Creme Egg!! :slap: I believe I could kill her. A judge would let me off, don’t you think? The penalty for eating the last Cadbury’s egg is clearly equivalent to a murder penalty.

It’s a good thing she’s cute or she would not be turning age three, let me tell you. She just barely made it to her second birthday.chocolate baby

Was she filled with remorse in any way? A smidge. Only because she didn’t get to FINISH eating the candy; that’s the regret she held. :hissyfit:

    LOL.

I admit, I’m very lucky. Even now they go for ‘naps’ even if the older one simpley waits till his brother falls asleeps then quietly plays with his hotwheels. Yup, I need that after lunch quiet time too.

  2. Bonnie Ferguson Says:

LOL . . .I could tell you stories about what my cousins used to get into :confused2:

My sympathies on the Easter Cream Egg :chocolate:

    This is your baby, yes?
Because I seem to recall going through the EXACT same thing with mine.
And naps? Forget about it! She would pitch a fit when she was at daycare because her sisters weren’t there, and she DIDN’T WANT TO SLEEP! :hissyfit:
All I can say is this…those youngest children…they are special. They have to be. Or else we’d have one less child to worry about. :duh:

Ooohhh… a small child hopped up on a sugar high. I’ve seen this up close a few times. Frightening stuff…

  5. Peggy Says:

LOL, too cute. My son (2 1/2) refuses to nap most days as well. Most of the time I hear him up there playing with his trucks—or screaming at the top of his lungs.

  6. Tori Lennox Says:

The more stories I hear from my friends with kids, the more glad I am I don’t have any. :rotfl:

Erk! I’m told the giving up of the nap is never good. I do recall being sat in my room and told the following: “Nap time is not about you. Nap time is for mommy. Therefore, if you don’t want to nap, that’s fine, however if you get off the bed until I come to get you, it will be bad. So get what you want to play quietly with and sit on your bed and I will let you know when naptime is over.”

Most of the time? I fell asleep anyway. :) Hope you can find a good way to get her to color in her room!

Oh, I feel for you. My kids (4 of them) all gave up naps by two and it was torture, especially because we homeschooled. You look forward to that little break, don’t you. When it’s taken away it’s much harder to cope. Now I’m finding that hubby and I never have time alone because our 4 teenagers go to bed after us. We have to leave the house to have alone time. *sigh* But, then one day they’ll be gone and we’ll be sad. lol The life of a parent.

  9. Melissa Says:

My daughter was never very good at taking naps. Sometimes she’d take one in the afternoon, other times she would wait until 5 p.m. and then be up until 10 p.m.! Now we’re napless unless she’s had a really busy day. :sleepy2:

Oh, Michelle… Hugs on the chocolate and the naptime disappearing. :hissyfit: Good lcuk!

  11. Melissa Mc Says:

Hugs Michelle. I told my kids from the time they were little they have to nap until they turn 5. So far it’s worked!!!! I’d die without naps. That’s my only writing time when the sun is up. The rest is late, late at night.

  12. Olga Says:

Lol and hugs! But as for the photo - what can I say? She is adorable!

  13. Cindy Says:

Hugs on the chocolate and the lost nap time. But I’m with Olga. She is adorable.

  14. Danica Says:

Nooooo!!! What an evil child! Cute, but then again, underneath all of the cute ones lurks a great evil.

  15. Nienke Says:

Uh oh. I’m 41 and I haven’t yet given up my naps. :crazyjumping:

  16. Crystal* Says:

Ah…forgot to hold a small glimmer of hope. When they become teenagers, they’ll embrace that nap thing again. My oldest will crawl into bed whenever she’s tired.
    Does a Mama proud. :woot:
