A fresh start
I’ve been going over one of my completed manuscripts, preparing it for the Golden Heart contest. I actually do enjoy revisions when the manuscript has had time to simmer and stew. Right now I’m hacking away at chapter 4, shaping it to fit the new synopsis. Hopefully I can get the revisions finished by next week (cue the hysterical laughter)
before I send it off to the contest.
We’re still working on the shed, putting up the roof trusses today. I am enjoying the nail gun (and I also learned that there are brands of nail guns that DO shoot nails without having to be pressed in, unlike the nail gun we’re using). Always good to know.
I took the Demon Baby to church today. It was an experience. Do you remember those days when you would see parents with young children, and the children were crawling around on the pews, coloring, eating snacks, and in general bringing chaos in their wake? I used to think, “That will never be me. MY children will never behave like that.” :loser:
Riiight. You have a choice–either leave the children at home or bring them and face the possibility that they may turn into Mr. Hyde without warning and require an exorcism (lucky me, I’m Catholic). Last Sunday, my daughter slept during the entire Mass. Today she made a bed for herself on the pew and was thrilled to discover that she could slide around on the polished wood. She would propel herself across the pew, grinning and saying, “Wheee!”
Each time I would haul her into my arms in a death grip, she would squirm and whimper and fuss, making far more noise than the aforementioned “Whee! ” Choose your battles, right? I tried coloring but then she discovered that she could color orange crayon upon her white tights. Not a good idea.
I tried giving her the hymnal, but she ripped a page right out.
So, at last, I gave up and let her slide around (hoping she’d fall asleep).
Again, no luck. Because the elderly couple behind her thought she was charming. She started to flirt with them and play peekaboo.
My son is old enough to attend the preschool religious education classes, which are great because they occur during Mass. In the meantime, it’s one more Sunday of wrestling a toddler. It reminds me of this commercial

Melissa Marsh Says:
My daughter has always acted pretty good in church. She stays quiet and if she has something to draw on, she’ll stay pretty occupied. I remember when I used to take my two stepsons to church, though. ARGH! That was sheer torture!:boxing:
Tori Says:
Hey, on tomorrow night’s CSI: Miami one of the CSI guys gets shot with a nail gun!
LOL re the Demon Baby! But for those of us without high speed Internet you need to TELL us which commercial you’re talking about.
Michelle Says:
Sorry. That would be the herding cats commercial. It’s a scream. :crazyjumping:
Peggy Says:
What a hoot!! I’ve never seen that commercial before. And they look so serious!
Robyn Says:
Oh, have I got a story for you. My sister-in-law had her toddler son playing with a some legos to keep him occupied in church. He built one thing and then started misbehaving. She sat him down, and shoved the lego block back at him and in that “If we weren’t in church I’d be yelling at you” whisper, told him to build something else.
He took the lego block and threw it straight at the pulpit. It hit and shattered into about thirty separate little lego pieces. My brother dragged him out of service while the kid screamed, “Don’t beat me!!!!” They almost resigned from that church!
Margery Says:
LOL on Demon Baby. Now I remember why I stopped taking them to church until they were old enough to go to Sunday School themselves.
Kelly Says:
I’m with you on the revisions. End of this week is my target date but I know I’ll be scrambling midnight of the 24th to get things done and off in the courier the next day. I see some all-nighters in my near future. Fire up the coffee pot…
Mary Says:
Demon baby…ha,ha, ha, I had one of those. That’s why I only had one.
Missie Says:
Michelle,

I am feeling your pain on the Demon Baby issue. My DB decided that she don’t need no stinkin’ sleep for the last 2 nights and kept me up until after midnight both nights! Ugh!
The reason God made babies so cute is so we would fall head over heels for them before they start driving us crazy. Then we wouldn’t leave them out by the curb with a sign that says, “Free to a Good Home”.
Amy K. Says:
Don’t they have a nursery? Hats off to you for keeping your cool and staying. I would’ve used it as an excuse to go home early. :confused2:
