All I want for Christmas is a book contract….
As we start drawing into the holiday season, I’m starting to think about what to buy the kids for Christmas. They truly don’t need much. My son’s toy box is overflowing and I’ve already given half of his toys to his sister (the ones he’s outgrown anyway). Last year he got a tricycle and a light saber, which he adored.
He’s really into Star Wars, :starwars: but he doesn’t really play with the action figure I bought him last Christmas as a stocking stuffer. A friend gave him a 30 piece floor puzzle of nursery rhymes, and he LOVED it. I bought him another one on Ebay, and I may look for some little puzzles in the meantime.
But when I asked him what he wanted Santa Claus to bring him, he thought a moment. “Um…a candy stick.”
“A candy stick? Don’t you want any puzzles or toys or books?”
He thought a moment and shook his head slowly. “No, just a candy stick.”
“What kind of candy stick?”
“A big one.”
I love the simplicity of his request and the fact that he’s sincere. He’s not greedy and I’m sure that whatever we end up with will be all right by him.
My daughter is too young to understand Christmas, so I imagine she will want to play with the wrapping paper.
But there’s one thing that SHOULD be outlawed among toys (and you parents will know what I mean). Those horrible little plastic ties that secure the toys to the boxes. Last year, I think I untied about thirty-six of them….ON EVERY TOY!!
I was about ready to start looking for small explosives to free the toys from their boxes. And in the meantime, the frantic toddler is DYING to play with his toy
and you can’t get it open fast enough.
What are you planning to get your kids for Christmas?

Stacy Says:
Oh yeah, I know exactly what you mean:angry: Outlawed? I think they should be executed. Mine are into puzzles too and cars. Thankfully most of my shopping is done for them. With a big family I have to start early.
Kelly Says:
Well, I don’t actually have kids, unless my dog counts, and I let my brother take care of the toy end of things for my nephew and usually end up providing the clothes and books, which I expect I’ll do again this year. And now I have a new niece and another newer niece(I think)/nephew which is scheduled to pop out around Dec 12th, so I’m knitting stuff up for them. NOt too exciting but hey, they’ll look fashionable!
Melissa Says:
OOH! Those little plastic twisties are HORRIBLE.
I have no idea what I’m going to get for my kids, although my daughter keeps dropping tons of hints. Whenever we go to the store, she points at something and says, “I’d like this for Christmas.”
Missie Says:
Since my girl is 4mo old, it won’t matter to her what she gets, as long as she can suck on it. Will probably go with some chunky toys and her first baby doll. For my boy…well, now that he’s almost ten, his tastes are getting quite expensive. Will probably go for something from Lego/StarWars/NinjaTurtles field. He’s not hard to please.
But me? I want a maid. Immediately. Forever. But even Santa can’t make that one happen. I hear they expect to be paid for cleaning. Go figure.
Rene Says:
Sigh….both of my daughters’ birthdays are next week. I’ve got a few things put away that I’ve bought earlier and some stuff that I bought last year for Christmas and forgot about. Katie likes everything. If it’s pink and sparkly, she likes it. Allison likes what her sister likes. My son’s birthday is Dec. 23. He is getting a telescope. Because of the price, he’s not getting much more. Oh yeah, dh got my daughter a set of golf clubs for her birthday. I want to get Allison the v-smile thing that hooks up to the t.v. I saw a really cute vanity set I might get for both the girls but it hasn’t been released yet. My son is happy with gift certificates, so I might get him one for amazon or something.
Robyn Says:
I’m so glad my daughter is past Barbie. Trying to get a thermonuclear weapon on a plane is easier than getting Barbie off the cardboard box.
My son wants video games.

My daughter wants a credit card.
Amy K. Says:
I’m with you on the plastic ties. Whoever thought up that packaging idea should be shot.
Not sure what we’re getting the boys yet…boy stuff. Rescue Heroes, Geotrax, probably more Thomas stuff for the younger one, Star Wars. They aren’t picky either.
Janet G Says:
My son loves Star Wars too. I bought him a Darth Vadar voice changer. That’s all he wants. Of course, his birthday is 10 days before Christmas, so it’s a huge influx of toys.
I love your title btw!!!
Danica Says:
I picked up a few things over the past few months for the kiddos. I can’t see us getting them much else, aside from some needed clothes. They have too much junk already.
However, the Bay-ster did spend all evening last night cutting pictures out of catalogues.
Olga Says:
I hope you get that book contract. As for the presents for kids, I don’t have kids. Sigh.
Bonnie Ferguson Says:
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you get your book contract for Christmas, Michelle
Mary Says:
My daughter is getting a coach purse and wallet–she works 70 hours a week so she deserves it. Plus she gives me a lot of med. advice. You’ll get your book contract–hang in there.
