Grandmas Love Us Best

My two children passed out in the car on the way home from Grandma’s. I spent the weekend at my mom’s, and some of my favorite moments included not changing diapers for 48 hours (woo hoo!) :bath: and not cooking. Ahhh…a true vacation. :drunk:

But the children are now sleeping. I think all the excitement just wore them out. :starwars: But they had a fabulous time and my husband and I abandoned them on Saturday to drive around and drool at houses we can’t afford. Seems like a sick sort of pasttime, doesn’t it? But it’s fun to imagine driving up a winding driveway to the top of a hill where a mansion overlooks a forest. Someday I’ll have that. (Okay, I may have to win the lottery or rob a bank, but I digress.)

Tonight I decided I’m ready to move on to my next book. It’s wonderful to imagine the possibilities and see where the blank pages take you. I’ve already finished the first three chapters of this one, but I think it’s a great candidate for a second book (Yes, still dreaming. Send good vibes to England, please). It has a hunky hero, lots of gripping angst, and a heroine who is a master healer. I love reading about homeopathic medicines and I do think there are some herbs that work exceptionally well. Case in point–when I was nursing my daughter, every once in a while, I’d drink an herbal tea called “Mother’s Milk” that had all sorts of good roots, vines, and whatever. (Yes, I use medical terminology). :loser: Anyway, I would drink a few cups of this stuff any time my daughter hit a growth spurt and lemme tell you, the stuff worked. I was mooing after a time, but it did the trick.

This is not to say I’d advocate making my own medicines from the purple cone flowers I have growing in my backyard, but I think a lot of the professionally-prepared medicines do work. And you? What are your thoughts on herbal medicine?

I have a lot of respect for herbal remedies and have harvested and made some of my own. I’m anal enough about identification and methodology to keep myself safe. I tend to prefer complementary formulas to homeopathic though.

Looks like you had a nice vacation, and your new book sounds great! As for herbal medicine, I strongly believe in it.

  3. Amy K. Says:

I don’t know a lot about it but I do believe they can work.

I would really need some homeopathic guidance. My luck…I’d poison myself.

I love herbal remedies. I drank that tea, too, although I hated the taste of it, so I’ve still got most of the box left.

Good luck and have fun with this new story!

I don’t know enough about herbal medicine not to kill myself. Good luck with your *second* book - we all know you’re gonna SELL the one sitting in London!!

I don’t really use herbal medicine, but I truly believe in them. When I was a teenager working at McDonald’s, I received a really bad grease burn on my arm. My mother applied the “juice” from an Aloe Vera plan onto the wound and it healed within days, and left no scar!

I use some herbal remedies, so yeah, I’d say I believe in it. :)

  11. Melissa Says:

I know next to nothing about herbal remedies, but I definitely think there’s something to it.

And wow - a weekend at mom’s with no diaper changing? Heaven!

I did a medieval once with a lot of herbal healing stuff in it and it was really cool learning about it.
