Anniversaries

Yesterday my husband and I celebrated seven years of marriage. :hello2: Like any marriage, we’ve had our ups and downs, but I’d say in general they were mostly ups. We went out to dinner at the Trellis restaurant in Williamsburg, famous for its Death By Chocolate dessert. Yum. I swear, we were like giddy teenagers, handing our babies over to the hands of a fourteen-year-old while we scampered out the door. A night out! With no kids! Woo hoo! Never mind the fact that babysitting rates are tapping into their college education fund. They can both go ROTC, right?

You tend to appreciate dates a lot more, once you have rug rats around. I make a concerted effort NOT to discuss the kids when we go out on a date. It’s nice to reconnect as adults and not parents. We enjoyed beef tenderloin, a bottle of wine, roasted potatoes, seasonal salad with blueberries, and Chocolate Temptation for dessert. :hungry: Loved it.

I met my husband on a blind date in college. We were best friends for a while and then it grew into a relationship from there, which in retrospect was the nicest thing that could have happened. We started dating in 1993 and were married in 1998 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. And yes, I had a cathedral length veil and train because I wanted to be a Princess on my wedding day, dagnabbit. It was wonderful. Couldn’t have asked for a better day or better weather. We were stuck with a 9:30 a.m. wedding, but it actually worked out well because we had an afternoon reception and then we partied with family and friends that night after we changed back into casual clothes. At some evening receptions, by eleven o’clock I’m blinking my eyes in exhaustion.

Anyway, it leads me back to a question. What’s your favorite wedding memory, either yours or one you attended?

    Happy Anniversary Michelle and Hubby!

Will you successful? Did you not talk about the kids? Hard, eh?

My wedding day was a good day, all of it. Nothing jumps out at me, but it was 18 and half years ago! Memory is going you know! :-)

Happy Anniversary!! Mine is standing in front of the minister. I was so happy to be getting married. My husband is a wonderful man.

Congrats! At my wedding (18 years ago) the kiss my dh gave the bride was…somewhat less than spectacular. You have to understand, he’s a very shy, soft-spoken man. While we were standing at the altar taking our 143,867th picture our family started teasing him about it. He had enough and said, “Fine!” He laid a Gone With The Wind, dip-like-a-ballroom-dancer, romance hero swoon kiss on me. And the cameras caught it all. Now, if I don’t feel he’s being romantic enough, I just get out those pictures and post them in strategic places.

Happy anniversary! One of my funniest memories from our wedding was when I pledged all my husband’s worldly goods to me. :) I was supposed to pledge MY worldly goods to him. And many lawyers came up to me afterwards and said it was legal and they’d testify. LOL!

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, MICHELLE!!!
Hubby and I went to Vegas - just the two of us - to get married. It was wonderfully romantic. But we were so exhausted after our dinner that night that we both went to bed and fell asleep!:sleepy2:

Happy Anniversary! I’ve eaten at the Trellis a few times. We would have lunch there on Sundays when I lived in Williamsburg.

I don’t remember much about my wedding day. I was so tired. I looked good, I remember that  I still don’t have my wedding photos and it was 11 years ago.

Having never been married and not so sure that illustrious event will ever occur, I’d have to say my favorite wedding moment was when my friend was walking up the aisle and her husband surprised her by serenading her as she walked up. He has a great voice and is in a band, so he could definitely pull it off. It was a song he had written specially for the occasion. Very romantic.

Congrats! The night out sounds like heaven.

Robyn’s kiss sounds familiar to me… everyone kept asking DH and I to kiss, and I hated it, so I finally gave him a long smooch on the cheek. :)

Happy Anniversary! I hear you on babysitting costs! Sometimes that costs more than our dates:sad:

My fave wedding memory was when it was time for our first dance. We had a pianist (small wedding only 40 people) and I had told him the name of the song I wanted, Beautiful in Your Eyes by Joshua Kadison. He didn’t know it but said he’d try to find it. He had a couple of backups in case he didn’t, but I really wanted that song. He did find it, and he even sang the words. It was so wonderful.

    Happy Anniversary!

    Happy Anniversary!

I’m not sure I would call these good memories (honestly it’s mostly a blur) but I still remember right after the ceremony giving a statement to police. (Someone had robbed all the bridesmaids while we had pics taken. We have a picture of me and the cop. :confused2:)

And the other is a non-memory but I’m still amused. One of my bridesmaids apparently almost passed out and ended up sitting down for most of the ceremony…but I had no idea anything was amiss until afterward.

Happy anniversary!!! I always have a lot of fun at weddings, but I don’t really remember mine, it was so long ago ;)

  13. Steph T. Says:

Late on this, but Happy Anniversary! My husband and I have been married for 7 years as well, and we also met on a blind date :)

  14. Missie Says:

Let’s see, which wedding memory would you like? The cleaners ruining my dress, the cross-eyed photographer I had never seen before, the losing of my ring down the tails of the best man’s tux, or the accidental turning off of the air conditioner in the church, which you do not do in Louisiana in April?

By the time the ceremony rolled around, I didn’t care if the church burned down and nobody showed up. As long as my guy and the minister were there, I was gettin’ married, dagnabbit. All in all, it turned out pretty well. I still like him after 13 years. :rocker: (I just put the rockstar there because I like him).
