Guilty Music
I love music. All kinds, all genres. I can listen to Josh Grobin one moment and tune in to Quiet Riot the next.
I think I kept Columbia House in business while I was in college, since they had such great deals on music. The other day I learned that Columbia House was bought out and goshgollydarnit, they had given me 3 free CD’s which I needed to claim. I decided to indulge myself in some Inappropriate Music for 30-year-olds.
My darling husband thought I should buy Bob Seager’s greatest hits or possibly some great 80’s stuff. Nope, not me. My selections included: Usher (Confessions), Gwen Stefani (L.A.M.B.), and Kelly Clarkson (Breakaway). My little tweeny-bopper students would be so proud. I shall learn to Hollaback with the rest of them.
And yes. Darn it. I confess! I do chaperone sixth grade dances for the sole purpose of getting my groove on. I love to dance and I AM NOT GOOD AT IT. You know Elaine from Seinfeld? Yep, that’s me. Imagine them playing a rocking version of “Yeah” and me flapping around like a chicken on crack.

Amy K. Says:
I’m not good at dancing either, which was why I swore I wasn’t going to at the HQ party. Well, yeah. Sometimes you just can’t help it. :headspin:
Gina Says:
I love to dance, and I love all kinds of music too. Some very unappropriate for a 29 year old. When I told some friends I loved Lindsay Lohan’s CD, I got the weirdest looks.
Melissa Mc Says:
I can’t dance well, but I love to dance. That’s what’s so great about the HQ party! It doesn’t matter. It’s all about having fun!
Kelly Says:
Funny image! I remember telling a guy I knew he danced like a monkey stuck in a blender. Sadly he thought that was a compliment.:duh:
Mary Says:
I LOVE my Ipod. It’s the best thing I’ve invested in many years. Do you have one?
Margery Says:
I love to dance. Any kind of dancing. I grew up on ballroom dancing and Scottish country dancing until I learned to jive and jitterbug, rock and roll, the Twist, the Hucklebuck. You name it. I did it. Still love to when I get the chance.
Anonymous Says:
Rock on woman! And I LOVE to dance!
and Mary is right about an Ipod. MP3 music. All the time. Everywhere. Not to mention you can d/l conference workshops to it.
Robyn Says:
Someone with as much klutz DNA as I have should never dance. I do anyway. And I will fully cop to loving old eighties stuff! Purple rain, purple rain…:rocker:
Melissa Says:
Nothing wrong with loving to dance at sixth grade dances!
I love all sorts of music, as well. I want to get Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway, but haven’t yet. Also love big band music of the 1940’s, Frank Sinatra, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, and, um, Metallica (that one is my husband’s fault.) I also like some country music, and Loreena McKennit is my absolute FAVORITE music to write to.
Cindy Says:
I love to dance too. And I’m not good at it either. I love the Breakaway and L.A.M.B. CD’s. Great music. I just bought Back Street Boys and Ashlee Simpson.
Tori Says:
Add me to those who love to dance (even though I’m not especailly good at it)!
And I love lots of different styles of music. I get Sirius satellite radio on Dish Network and I made one of my “favorites lists” just the music stations I listened to the most. Hard rock, Alternative Rock, 80s (this is the one I listen to the most), country, bluegrass, Dance Club Mix, Disco, Swing Bands, Broadway hits. And I also love Celtic music.. Wish they had a channel just for that!
Peggy Says:
This might make me sound really out of hip, but….what’s a Hollaback girl???
Danica Says:
I love to dance, and yes, I suck at it, too, but you know, it’s what makes the Harlequin party fun for me. A whole room of women, most of whom suck at dancing, getting their groove on, and because we’re not there to impress a bunch of sleezy bar crawlers, we just have a ton of fun.
A Hollaback girl… it’s the name of Gwen Stefani’s latest song on the radio. Um, I think someone explained it a while back, and I can’t remember exactly, but if you google Hollaback girl, you can find the song lyrics and figure it out. Which is what I did, LOL
Christine Keach Says:
I am another person who absolutely LOVES to dance but has absolutely NO rhythm! I chaperone dances and dance to all the Electric Slide versions. That’s about all I’ll attempt in front of my middle schoolers. They’ve even told me (during a huge gigling fit) that I can’t dance! I just said, “I know, but I don’t care!)
As for types of music, I can listen to anything but jazz and opera. I love heavy metal, some rap, Celtic, classical, hip-hop…pretty much anything except those two.
Steph T. Says:
Good CD choices!!
I remember chaperoning those dances - and I don’t know if your students dance the same way mine did, but let me tell you, the whole, dancing like you’re having sex, is just a little too much to watch 8th graders doing. I used to threaten that I was going to take pictures of them dancing like that and send them to their parents. And then I’d tell them what the nuns who taught me in 8th grade would say during our dances - leave room for the Holy Spirit.
Teresa Says:
I’m the same way . . . I can listen to anything. I love the variety. Shoot, one of my books back ground music is Marron 5 and Velvet Revolver.:headbang:
