Helping Those in Need
A good friend of mine, Larissa Ione, evacuated from Gulfport, MS in time to escape Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, their family lost everything and their house is underwater.
If anyone would like to help out, Writeminded is setting up a relief effort.
It’s such a devastating loss to those whose homes were struck. It leads me to wonder what decisions will be made regarding the rebuilding efforts. On one hand, we have thousands of homeless people whose lives have been completely uprooted. But at the same time, is it wise to rebuild an area that is below sea level?
I am grateful to live in a country who pulls together in times like this. Already I’m hearing of radio fundraisers, collections, and ways people can help out. Countless rescue workers volunteer their time, working long hours without any thought for themselves. Those, to me, are the true heroes. ![]()

I can’t believe the pictures. It’s just so surreal. I went through the battering we rec’d from Hurricane Juan a couple years ago and that was bad enough, but it was nothing compared to what the Gulf Coast is now suffering through. I feel so bad for those people that lost everything. I can’t even imagine. Makes my roof and deck repairs that had to be done a drop in the bucket.
Suzanne Says:
Yes, it’s so sad, but you’re right–there are heroes out there!
Mary Says:
It is so sad. Reminds me of precious life is and how little our possessions really mean. They can be taken away in a minute.
Melissa Says:
I can’t even begin to fathom undergoing such a tragedy.
Tori Says:
It’s just so incredibly sad.
Leslie Says:
Hugs to Larissa and anyone else involved. This is a nightmare that will live for us for a very long time.
Danica Says:
Yes, there are definitely a lot of heroes out there.

Thanks for linking to help Larissa! The support and prayers are pouring in, and every time I talk to her and tell her about it, she’s just so grateful - it’s really helping her during this time.
Now, if we could just get Temptation to call her, that would just be so wonderful…
