Dreams and Wishes

Did I drive you crazy with yesterday’s jingles? Here were the answers:

1. ” The best part of waking up…” is Folger’s in your cup.
2. “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony…” I’d like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.
3. “Nyquil. The sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuff head, so…” you can rest medicine.
4. “Rice-a-roni, the…” San Francisco treat.
5. “Plop, plop…” fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.
6. “You can do it…” We can help.

and what about these? Can you guess the advertised product?
7. “Choosey mothers choose—-” Jif
8. “Oh, what a feeling.” Toyota
9. “With a name like —-, it has to be good.” Smuckers
10. “Taste the high life.” Miller High Life
11. “— is the place with the helpful hardware man.” Ace

This morning I did NOT want to get up. I had the most marvelous dream that Mills & Boon bought my book  and had sent me line edits to do. Ahh…nice thought. :typing: Especially when my new book isn’t working and I may have to do some minor surgery on my recently-finished book. I wonder if experienced authors go through this stage where you’re writing utter garbage and you can’t seem to find the right thread (I imagine so).

I’m working this morning on my school web page, trying to teach myself css code. It’s enough to make my eyes glaze over. If I were a web designer, I think I would also end up an alcoholic. :drunk: I don’t understand how people do this for a living. If you forget one single semicolon, your web page looks like it was designed by Picasso (and I don’t mean that in a good way). Once, I thought I might enjoy doing web design for a living. That was before I learned all the intricacies of what’s involved. I know enough now to back away with my hands up in surrender.

In other news, I hope I didn’t jinx myself. I ordered some more research books on ancient Ireland to help me with my new book. I’m deathly afraid that His Chosen Bride will now be rejected because I ordered those books. Too superstitious, I know. But do you ever get that way? Are there special or strange things you’re superstitious about, not just in the writing realm, but in general? I know I sometimes knock wood. How about you?

Good luck. I’ve had dreams that have come true. I can’t wait for you to sell.

  2. LauraP Says:

As my daughter puts it - don’t tempt the irony gods. I try not to do that.

  3. Suzanne Says:

Dreams can come true! Don’t psych yourself out over buying the books. Preparing to write more Irish medievals for M&B is an affirmation!!

  4. Leslie Says:

Superstitous? You bet! I wouldn’t even let myself daydream about getting the call for fear I’d jinx it. But then I figured it was negative thinking so I made myself imagine what it would be like. I’ve had a few dreams that I’ve sold, including one to Harlq Historical (this was a few months ago). Funny thing is they don’t even have my book…guess I should send it to them, huh?

  5. Katie Says:

Looking forward to seeing that dream come true!!

My superstition - the first time I got a wouldbeinterested :typing: I was making chipped beef on toast. Now whenever I feel the need to send good vibes toward the east, I drag out the ol’ SOS lunch.

  6. Peggy Says:

I can’t talk about something in a positive light or I fear jinxing it. So I try and remain nuetral.

My mother thought if you spoke of a nightmare, it would come true. And you could never, ever, speak of the possibility of death. Simply saying it outloud she feared invited the grimkeeper.

  7. Rene Says:

I’m not particularly superstitious. I do kiss my submissions before I mail them out. As for research books, I tend to get interested in a topic without regards to a story idea then get a story idea. I read history books for fun. Look at it that way and you won’t be jinxing yourself.

Hopefully your dream is prophetic and you have good news to share real soon.

  8. Michelle Says:

    Leslie–yes, you should definitely submit!

    Peggy–your mother’s idea scares me.

Rene–I kissed my last book before I mailed it. We’ll see I guess!:coffee2:

  9. Tori Says:

I’ve had a few dreams that came true which was kind of cool. So here’s hoping yours does!

  10. Amy K. Says:

Yes, I can be superstitious. I knock on wood all the time. And am always afraid of jinxing things. :confused2:

  11. Melissa McClone Says:

Dreams do come true! And I don’t think you can jinx a sale since it’s really out of your hands. Not as long as you keep believing!

  12. Melissa Says:

Nah, you didn’t jinx yourself. You’re improving your mind and that can only be a good thing!!!

  13. Danica Says:

Nah, don’t worry about those negative thoughts in there. You can do it!

Oh, and I totally hear you on the web design stuff… I’m debating on mine, and everytime I think I can do my own site, I do something stupid on eHQ like forget a stupid tag or period or / whatever that thing is called. (Which is what I forgot today and it took me 30 minutes to find)

  14. Teresa Says:

I know what you mean on the webdesigners. I get so frustrated just with my blog. I think I need to pay someone for a website.

And hey, dreams come true! Think of all the great stuff you’re going to learn . . . NO jinxing.

  15. kacey Says:

LOL! Well, I do pick up coins when I see them…not because I need the five cents or whatever…but the stupid “find a penny pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck” plays over and over and taunts me! :loser:

  16. Cindy Says:

I’ve had dreams that came true. I hope yours was prophetic. I am superstitious. I knock on wood all the time. The web design thing is addictive. I finally broke down and contacted someone to do it for me so I would have more time for writing.
