Romance novels I’d like to see written
Larissa Ione gave a great post today at Romancing the Blog on the lack of grit in romance novels. Bravo, I say.
Harlequin has a new line called Bombshell, with heroines who have that sort of grit. They’re your Jennifer Garners in Alias. It got me thinking about what kinds of romances I’d like to see written. Here’s what I would want:
1. An outlaw heroine who busts the bad guys and a hero with the guts to be her man.
2. A fed-up wife who’s been tormented by her evil ex-husband hires a hit man to “off” him, and she falls in love with the hit man. (Would you like to shoot him, honey, or should I?) :batman:
3. A spy hero who is caught, tortured, and rescued by the heroine.
What would you like to see in romance?
P.S.–My husband found this link which is fun. Rocket scientists have too much time on their hands . . .

Did you see that movie “The Transporter” (one of my favorites)? I’d like to see a heroine who drives a totally boss car and blows away bad guys because she’s good at it and likes the money rather than some dipstick altruistic reason like her border collie needs plastic surgery.
How about a historical where the characters are middle class and no one has a title.
An Asian hero.
Mary Says:
Good question, but I’m not sure. I love all your ideas.
Larissa Says:
Your ideas all look good to me!
I’d really like to see a vampire hero or heroine who runs around intentionally taking out scumbags…and I don’t want their love interest to whine about it. “It’s so wrong to take the law into your own hands!” Good grief. Give me a love interest who wants to join forces and help!
Jill Says:
Yeah, it was a great post by Larissa!
Tori Says:
I love your ideas, Michelle!
I’m sure I have/had some other cool ideas, but my mind just went blank. I’ll mull this over.
Tori Says:
I just read your article, Larissa! Good stuff!
And now I have this urge to write a vampire western….

BTW, thanks for the link! I sat for 10 minutes and managed to get 3 in the basket. I could play for the Lakers.
Suzanne Says:
I’ll do the tortured spy one….
Michelle Says:
Rene, no I haven’t seen the Transporter. But that sounds like a FUN idea. Maybe I should try writing a Bombshell. I could break lotsa rules….:bighair:
And I love the idea of an Asian hero. I have a minor character in the new wip who’s from India, and that would be fun to make him a complete stud.
Larissa–Amen to that. Vigilante law rules!
kacey Says:
Um, I’ll take #2 where someone hires a hit man to kill their ex. No, not for any particular reason
… it’s just a great STORY idea
