Mailbag
Yesterday I received a rejection on a partial from Berkley on a proposal they’ve held for 2 years. To be honest, I had given up on that proposal long ago. I had the complete book written, but something felt–”off” about it. I couldn’t tell what it was. I’m not surprised it was rejected, so yesterday I didn’t mind so much. I laughed, more than anything else.
Then I got an e-mail from a visitor to this website. She had read some of my excerpts on the site and did a search on Amazon and B&N to find my books. When she couldn’t find them, she wrote to ask me how she could buy them. I have to say, that request made my entire day. Thank you, Akilah. Here’s hoping that I’ll soon be able to put a link to my books on this site! I have absolute faith that it will happen. It’s just a matter of WHEN.
In the meantime, I think I’ll send out a few more submissions. Surely then they will buy a manuscript if I keep hounding them. ![]()

That’s my philosophy!!! Submit till they give in! Here’s hoping it works!
kacey Says:
Two years on a submission. This industry is just weird
Well, send it back out! (or revise…I’m sure your writing has changed in two years
…and send it back out there into the world!)
Kate Allan Says:
Two years! Gosh.
Larissa Says:
Two years on a PROPOSAL??? Um, they clearly need to hire some more assistants!
Michelle Says:
Isn’t that scary? I could see, maybe that long on a complete…if it’s at the bottom of the stack.
Personally, I think it was propping up someone’s desk.
Mary Says:
Keep submitting. It’ll happen.
Michelle Says:
I printed out a new proposal and it’s all addressed and ready to mail on Monday.
Amy K. Says:
Good luck on the new stuff you’re sending out!
kacey Says:
kacey whispers…the lines are going to be HORRIBLE this week at the post office…:batman:
Michelle Says:
Thanks, Amy!
Kacey–Ah, but I bought a prepaid $3.85 Priority Envelope at the post office two weeks ago for just this occasion (impulse mailing). There’s no line at my mailbox. :coffee2:
kacey Says:
You’re my hero. I got the envelope, but not the $3.85 stamp for it. And I want to mail this week. I’m thinking, probably next week though. I hate standing in lines.
Michelle Says:
Whenever I mail anything at the post office, I pick up a Priority Flat Rate envelope and buy a $3.85 stamp while I’m at it. We must always have postage on hand!
Sylvia Day Says:
That happened to someone else I read about. But the rejection was for a book the house had printed a year earlier.
How’s that for a laugh?
Michelle Says:
Sylvia–now THAT’S downright scary.
Wow.
