The urge to submit
Every once in a while, I get this urge to submit something to a publisher. It usually happens when, like right now, I’m knee-deep in a new story and it’ll be a while before I finish it.
I have a craving to mail something new, to get a wouldbeinterested (a request for a partial or full). Usually I mail partials. Sometimes queries.
Anyway, I was looking over old files and I came across an old cover letter. All of a sudden, the story sounded really cool.
I had only written three chapters.
And the submission voice started whispering…you could mail it….you might get a request for the full manuscript…it’s just a quickie story, only 60,000 words…come on, do it….you know you want to…
This kind of thing always happens when I’m writing a fun historical. My inner contemporary voice wants out.
Of course, some day I’ll be really in trouble. Because I’ll get a request and suddenly I’ll have multiple books to write. And they’ll all be due at the same time! Cripes. ![]()

Amy K. Says:
Hey, that’s the kind of trouble we all need!
So…did you mail it?
kacey Says:
hm…multiple requests. Yes, I can see how that would suck big time
So, did you send it? I’m rather on a submission kick myself these days.
Michelle Says:
Well, I reworked the query letter. I need to reread the proposal and make sure I wasn’t on crack when I wrote it. Don’t think so, since the editor liked it but it wasn’t right for the line….I think it could fit Desire, possibly. Hmm…
I have a sick baby tonight. I need a

LauraP Says:
So send it already. The more you have out there, the better.
Michelle Says:
Hey Laura!
Good to see you.
Yep, I’ll probably mail it this weekend. I’m just debating…proposal or query? I love having things in the mail.
katie Says:
And that would be wrong exactly why???? :coffee2:
That’s my goal!
Jill Shalvis Says:
Do it. Send it. Send them all. What’s the worst that could happen, you sell several things at once? LOL, not a bad place to be.
Suzanne Says:
Send! Mailing is FUN!!!
kacey Says:
send the PROPOSAL, not just a query. So the editor gets a sense of your funny writing style!
nag, nag, nag
Michelle Says:
All right, all right. Proposal it is.
Baby had strep. Bummer.
Must. Sleep.
She kept me up all night. And I mean she cried every hour.
